My second English book of the year I've finished: the perks of being a wallflower. I picked this book for my second English book of the year to read this month, which has Charlie who is just like me. From my point of view, this book always points out the things I've been struggling from like what Charlie did, being himself, honest with himself.
What really stroke me and made me freeze during the book is the part where Sam kept questioning him why Charlie did what she told him to do to Mary Elizabeth, let Patrick kiss him even when he didn't want to, and never asked her out when he did want to. The point is that she was telling him that he needs to be himself and honest with himself, telling what he wants and needs to others, and to do things. At those moments, he felt uncomfortable and so did I. I felt just like Sam was telling all these things to me.
Incidentally, jumping to the first book of the year I've read, One day in December, I see the same point from the characters, Laurie and Jack, who had spent(wasted) around 10 years to be together, not being honest with herself and himself, respectively. (I know the aspects of the book aren't the same as One day in December, though.) In fact, this is one of the things that kept distracting me into the book.
And he is as vulnerable as I am, too emotional, nostalgic about bad memories, but what I really like him about is when his turn came to say what he was thankful at the family gathering, what he said, his brother playing football on TV got nobody in his family into a fight for the first time, making his family have angry and uncomfortable faces, which I couldn't stop laughing out loud. like really hard. He is so funny.
And the things what I'm really jealous about him is that he is a smart student who got straight A's, getting stoned and trying to be sober from cigarettes and pot sometimes, being a wallflower, and with a teacher telling he is one of the most gifted people in terms of anyone his teacher's ever met. And he has a brother who told him not to worry about his college money if he makes it to the pros.
And I find him beautiful because he is saying everyone is special in their own way, thankful to have heard the word "special" from his aunt Helen when he remembers what she did to him.
I'm writing the book review in English because, after reading English books, it is one of the good tips for one's English. It was challenging, and thus I don't think I would ever do it this long. It was really hard.
